The Devil's Music!
Remember those stories about the hidden messages you'd hear when you play record backwards (records? what are they?)?
Well, you can hear some of those messages (complete with "lyrics") here.
And, it's not just limited to classic rock by the Beatles or Led Zeppelin. The scariest sample on here is the Pokemon theme song.

No Teen "Trek" for Shatner
Paramount Pictures turned down William Shatner's pitch for Starfleet Academy, a new Star Trek series that would have featured Kirk, Spock, McCoy and Scotty in their their younger years. That's not stopping Bill from turning the idea into a book though. Read about it here.
And more bad news for Shatner. He has a whole Iowan town mad at him for a hoax he pulled as part of a new reality sries he's working on for Spike TV. They're calling him "Captain Jerk."

Roots of "Sin City"
Sin City finally hits theatres this Friday, April 1. It seems like it's been advertised forever.
There's a great article here that examines the crime fiction roots of Sin City, from novels and short stories by Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler from the '30s and '40s that influenced writer/artist/director Frank Miller in his creation. Not only does this article make me want to see the movie, it makes me want to read a lot of these books, many of which I already own, but haven't read yet.
And here is an overview of the Sin City series of graphic novels. I own the first, featuring the character of Marv (played by Mickey Rourke in the movie). It's been awhile since I read it. Time for me to break it out again.
Reviews for the movie are starting to come in from comic sites and the mainstream press. Needless to say, the comic sites are more generous, praising its faithfulness to the graphic novels from which the movie sprang, as opposed to mainstream critics, who find the film maybe just a tad too dark and violent. All praise the cinematic wizardry that Miller and co-director Robert Rodriguez bring to the film.
I know my interest is piqued. Will I see it in the theatre or wait for the DVD? I'll let you know.

Deleted Daredevil
The Elektra movie hits DVD on April 5.
You can see from scenes from the movie here, including a clip of Matt (Daredevil) Murdock , played by Ben Affleck, in a scene that was cut from the movie.
The clip with Murodck is called "Come Back."
This movie is probably worth a rental only.

Super DVD News
Warner Bros. has just announced that the first season of Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman will be arriving on DVD on June 7. Also rumored to be coming soon is the '50s series, The Adventures of Superman, with George Reeves.
Adam West IS Batman!
I posted the trailer for this awhile back, but here is the full 5-minute movie, featuring Adam West as Batman, Mark Hamill as the Joker and Dick Van Dyke as Commisioner Gordon. It's a great combination of the 60s TV show, the movies and the 90s animated series, but with toys!

Back to Kryp-tin
Who's playing Jor-El in the new Superman movie? Why, Marlon Brando, of course. Director Bryan Singer has been saying that the new movie will tie into the first two, and who better to play Superman's dead father than the dead actor, who insisted on calling his planet "Kryp-tin."
Read about it here.

Batman & Robin vs. CHiPs
And now a clip from Robot Chicken, the new Adult Swim show on Cartoon Network that demonstrates some people make TV shows just for me:
Living in "Sin"
Yahoo has put up a mini-site dedicated to the new Sin City movie opening April 1. One of the highlights is a gallery comparing movie stills to comic panels. See how faithfully the film creates the comic here.

Darker Star Wars
The new trailer for Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith premiered during The O.C. last night and can be seen in front of the new Robots movie in theatres this weekend. For now, only AOL subscribers can see it, but it will probably be more widely available by Monday.
UPDATE: Here's the trailer. Give it a minute or so to download.
In the meantime, check out this new poster, and this article, where Lucas says Episode III will probably be rated PG-13, not PG like all 5 previous installments.
Having been fortunate enough to catch the trailer on TV, all I can say is "Wow!"

Definitive Detective
In 1977, DC published what many consider one of the definitive Batman runs, the Englehart/Rogers stint on Detective (reprinted in the trade paperback Strange Apparitions). This May, just in time for the new movie, the creative duo returns for a mini-series called Dark Detective, featuring the return of Silver St. Cloud and the Joker's run for governor, under the slogan, "Vote for Me -- Or I'll Kill You!"
Check out this feature article, which includes an interview with Englehart and a preview of the first issue.

Krypto Coming to Cartoon Network
Cartoon Network has just launched its site for the new Krypto cartoon, debuting, Monday, April 4 at 9 am (sneak peek on March 25, I hear). Sure, it's aimed at the pre-school set, but from what I've read on the site, it looks to be a lot of fun for comics/cartoon fans too.

The cartoon stars Superman's dog, as well as Ace the Bat-Hound, Streaky, the Super-Cat (used to belong to Supergirl), and the episode guide indicates we'll be seeing Catwoman's cat, Isis (from Batman: the Animated Series!), the Penguin's pet bird, and a character named Tusky (who was Aquaman's pet walrus in the '60s cartoons).
There's references to LexCorp, Catwoman, the Joker, Robin(!) and more in the episode descriptions. Red kryptonite (which, in old comics continuity had different, unpredictable effects on Kryptonians each time they encountered it) plays a major role in the series.
The site has character descriptions, an episode guide (2 stories per episode, 26 episodes so far!) and a video of the show's opening theme. Check it out!
